Raising Rock Stars

rockstarbutton[2]

This week we worked on the letter C lesson from Danielle’s Place.  We focused on the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den and talked about courage…and how not to be a scaredy cat!

Our Memory Verse was Isaiah 41:10a Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God

Of course – we had to watch our favorite Veggietales DVD, Where Is God When I am Scared, because it fit so perfectly.

We made lion face bean bags.

We ate our lunch on lion zoo pal plates.

I took some more lion zoo pal plates and punched holes all around the edges and cut a piece of yarn for the boys to lace around their plates.

We made scaredy cat books!  I had Seth draw pictures of what he was scared of.  He drew a picture of a snake and a picture of his basketball goal falling over (this happened in the middle of the night one night…and it scared him real bad and apparently still scares him even today).

Seth is really starting to ask questions about salvation and we are having some really good conversations about Jesus and what he came to earth to do for us.  I have a feeling he will be one of the ones that will accept Jesus at a pretty young age!  I am just daily praying that God will give me the right words to tell him and that it will penetrate his heart and that he will understand.

Tot School

TotSchool2

Aaron is currently 30 months old.

Aaron had a pretty good week…except for getting sick at the end of the week with this upper respiratory junk that has been going around :-(.

Here are some picture highlights from the week.

The boys are still  loving the Wii (well as long as Aaron has a remote that is…we are really having to work on our fits and learning how to take turns!)  In this picture they were going on a long run (to release some bottled up energy!)

The kids loved playing with Daddy this week.  They helped Daddy with his exercises one night.

This was actually an activity we did as part of our Raising Rockstar lessons but Aaron really enjoyed this activity of lacing yarn around this lion.  I just took a zoo pal plate and punched holes around the edges and then cut a piece of yarn.  I taped one end of the yarn to the back of the plate.  Aaron tried real hard to get the yarn in those holes!

Aaron doesn’t always like me taking his picture.  (in fact I haven’t been getting as many pictures because I don’t want the kids to think I am doing something with them just so I can get a picture and put it on the blog.  I am trying to make sure my focus stays where it needs to be…on them!)

Aaron is really enjoying coloring right now.  He likes it when him and I color a picture together.  I am trying to teach him his colors as we work on a page together…I know one day he will finally get it!  :-)

We are also working on our left and right every time we get dressed or put our shoes and socks on.  I think he is starting to grasp it!

And we are starting to talk about the potty and what we are suppose to do in the potty!  I am hoping that I will maybe, hopefully, have him potty trained by the time we go on our cruise at the end of June.  He turns 3 on July 6th so it is very possible :-)  I just have a feeling he is going to be a stubborn one!

Seth’s Week In Review

Seth had a good week in school this week.  He has been begging me to teach him how to tell time so we worked on that this week.  We learned about the hour hand and the minute hand and how to tell time when the minute hand is on the 12 or the 6.

Seth also counted to 100 this week and we learned to count by 10.  We also learned about counting pennies and dimes this week.

We also worked on our sight words this week.  We worked on the words the and is.

Here are some picture highlights from the week.

The boys are loving PE on the Wii.  I sent them on a long run one day…they had some bottled up energy they needed to release :-)

Daddy put them all in the big dump truck to go for a ride.  They had a lot of fun with that!

Seth is a true goof ball!!

Here’s a picture of Seth working on his Sight Words workbook.  (his poor hair…he has a major cow lick…but we got his hair cut on Friday so that solved that problem!)

The boys are still loving their desks and doing school in the kitchen :-)

Tot School

Not only am I late in getting this post up…I also did not get any pictures last week of our activities.  But this does not mean that we didn’t have any activities.  We had a very good week last week.

Aaron enjoyed putting puzzles together with his brother.  They put together the alphabet train puzzle several times.  Seth enjoyed teaching Aaron his ABC’s while they were putting it together.  There were some really sweet moments.

Aaron also loved coloring his sharks coloring book.  He has always been more interested in coloring than Seth ever was.

Aaron really seems to be going through a difficult phase right now.  I don’t know if it is typical middle child conflict or not but he seems to be showing some jealousy of both Seth and Alyssa.  I am thinking he is just trying to figure out where he fits in.  I am trying to make a conscious effort of making sure I spend some special time with Aaron to make him feel special.  Hopefully this phase will pass quickly :-)

Well I better get off here so I can get started on our busy and fun week this week!  Have a great week everyone!

Seth’s Week In Review

I know this is late…and not only is it late, I was BAD about getting pictures last week!  Ugh!!

But what matters is the fact that we had a good week!  Seth really did well in school last week.  We  focused alot on beginning letter sounds.  He is getting really good at recognizing beginning letter sounds.

We also worked on our sight words.  We reviewed words we have already learned and Seth did very well remembering his words.  We also introduced the word THE and worked on exercises to help learn that word.

We also worked on our counting skills.  Seth is still having to learn how to accurately count objects.  He continually shows improvement in this area!

I did get a couple of pictures of Seth working on puzzles.  We worked on puzzles a lot this last week.  Seth is really starting to enjoy puzzles and learning how to figure out how they go together.

I will try to do better this week at getting pictures.  The problem is I am too busy actually working and playing with my kids to pause to get the camera.  I am trying to make sure my focus is on my kids and NOT on trying to get pictures for a blog.  But I know yall enjoy the pictures so I will try to get them when I can.

Raising Rockstars – The Ant

rockstarbutton[2]

We have started a new year – therefore we are starting a new series of lessons for Raising Rockstars.  We are going through the ABC’s I Believe series from Danielle’s Place.   So far I am loving these lessons.

Our first week was on the letter A – Consider the Ants.  The memory/theme verse is Proverbs 6:6 “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.”.

We talked about how ants are busy workers.  There are many different jobs on an ant hill and every ant knows their job and they do it.  They don’t worry about what other ants are doing.  They see something that needs to be done and they do it.  Through the lesson I tried to hammer in the concept that that you need to “do your work without being told to do it” and we talked about different things that the boys can do around the house and that they should be doing without having to be told to do it.  God wants us to be like the ants – be hard workers.

This worked perfect for this first week of the new year because I introduced new chores and chore charts this week.  So it helped in explaining why our chores are so important and why everyone needs to do their part.

Here are some picture highlights from the week.

The boys colored their memory verse sheet.

My pictures didn’t turn out well…but we made ant antler headbands to wear while we are doing our work  (even though the boys don’t like wearing them now…oh well…they were cute for a moment).

I found little whisk broom and dust pan sets at Target on the $1 aisle.  The boys are learning how to sweep up their mess off the floor after meals.

I am really thinking I am going to like this series of lessons.  We are doing 30 minutes every day of our Raising Rockstars bible lessons.  I am excited to say that this is one of the boys favorite times of the day!  :-)

Tot School – A New Year

TotSchool2

Aaron is currently 30 months old.

Well I know it has been a while since I have made a tot school post.  We had a wonderful Christmas break though!  Just didn’t have time to blog :-)

We got back to schooling this week.  We are working on a new schedule and we are having fun with all of the new resources we got for Christmas :-)

My mom got the boys new desks for Christmas and they love them!!  We all love having more room and Aaron especially loves to have his own space and to be able to easily color his pages and do his work without having to sit on his knees or be confined to his booster chair in order to reach the table :-)

One of the things we got for Christmas is a Wii and we love it!!  Even the boys are able to do some of the games.  We have worked in a PE time on the Wii into our daily school routine!   I think this will really help to teach Aaron coordination!

Aaron got a new shape sorter (it also has nesting cups as well to learn sequencing) for Christmas.  This week we worked on trying to learn the name of each shape while we were figuring out what hole they fit in.

Aaron was playing with this while I was working with Seth on some school work.  Aaron kept yelling “I did it!”.  When I finally turned my head to watch him do it I realized he was taking off the whole lid and putting the shape inside and then putting the lid back on and yelling “I did it”.  That little stinker!!

The boys loved being able to play outside this week!!  We have been having unusually cold weather the past few weeks and the boys haven’t been able to get out much.  But this week was more like normal and they loved getting out in the sunshine!

Aaron has also learned how to swing in a “big boy swing” all by himself!!  He is growing up way too fast!!

Aaron is also learning some new chores to do around the house!!  I found whisk broom and dust pan sets on the $1 aisle at Target this week!!  Aaron loves going around and sweeping up trash off the floor!

Aaron enjoyed doing some paint with water this week!

He also loved playing with some new puzzles he got for Christmas.

The boys got a lot of kitchen toys for Christmas!!  Aaron even got a shopping cart which he loves! I set up one day the living room so that they could go shopping at the grocery store (aka the couch) and then cook in their kitchens (aka the recliners).  I was going to have them do this for 30 minutes!!  They were having so much fun and so engaged in it that they played this for an hour!!  Mommy was able to get caught up on some computer work!!  :-)

One of the toys they got was the Melissa and Doug Wooden Cutting Food Set!!  This is an AWESOME toy!  They are in love with it and being able to cut their food!!  Since it only came with one wooden knife (and due to price I only bought one set for them to share) I found a small plastic spatula in my kitchen stuff that also works well for a knife.
