Our Field Trip To The Zoo

Last week we went to the zoo.  The Ft Worth Zoo was having their homeschool day.  We were able to get in at a discounted price which meant all 4 of us got in for $10!  You just can't beat that!

And I was telling my husband afterwards that even though it was a bit crowded I experienced first hand how different of a caliber of people homeschool families really are!  Everyone was curious and helpful and patient with everyone.  For the most part the teenagers were very respectable to others, especially the younger kids, making sure that they were not blocking their view.  Kids were constantly running to open doors with people with strollers.  It was very pleasant!  It made me very proud to be part of such a great community of people!

It worked out well that this trip fell in the middle of our lessons about animal habitats and homes.  As we were walking around the zoo looking the animals we took time to talk about their surroundings at the zoo and how they are the same and how they are different from the animal's natural surroundings out in the wild.  It really led to some good conversations during our zoo trip and I think really helped Seth to think about animal habitats...more than he would just by sitting in the school room!  I love life school!!  :-)

Here are some pictures from our zoo trip.  Enjoy!
